Maya Mendoza-Exstrom

Chief Operating Officer at Seattle Sounders FC

Maya enters her 11th season with Sounders FC in 2024 and third as COO. She previously served as SVP of Legal and External Affairs and General Counsel. Prior to Sounders FC, Maya was in private practice at Mendoza Law Center, serving as outside general counsel for a range of small businesses across all sectors.

She serves the club in strategic leadership over club operations, organizational strategic initiatives, legal and external affairs, people and culture, social justice and philanthropy, government affairs and civic relations, growth and the organization’s impact, and regularly advising on major projects and transactions, compliance and governance and serving as corporate secretary.

Maya grew up with a ball at her feet, is a former All-American soccer player at the University of Puget Sound, a USSF B Licensed coach and long time volunteer in youth soccer. She served as chair of the now successful bid for Seattle to host FIFA World Cup 2026, now serving on the local organizing committee board. A mom on the sideline of her daughters now, three generations of women in her family have loved and played this game.

A long time advocate for equity in public education, youth sports and arts access for youth, Maya serves as board member for RAVE Foundation, the official charitable arm of Sounders FC. She also serves as a board member for the Seattle Parks Foundation, the Wing Luke Museum, the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce, Washington State Legends of Soccer, and the Seattle Sports Commission.
