Zaheen Hussain

National Capital City Director at Student Conservation Association

Zaheen Hussain serves as SCA’s National Capital City Director. A native of Bangladesh and a DC transplant by way of Connecticut and Pittsburgh, Zaheen earned his Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Connecticut. At SCA, Zaheen leads the implementation of its Urban Green initiatives, building on SCA’s 30+ year history of community programs in the National Capital Region. The Urban Green framework builds on community priorities to help curb the negative impacts of climate change and environmental injustices. This includes implementing SCA’s US Forest Service supported Urban & Community Forestry Program.Prior to his current role at SCA, Zaheen served as Director of Sustainability at New Sun Rising, a community capacity building non-profit serving Western Pennsylvania. In that time, his team launched the first three certified EcoDistricts with programs advancing food access, stormwater management, renewable energy, air quality management, mobility and equity. Zaheen has also served on several nonprofit boards and has experience in developing funding strategies, program designs and executive leadership searches.
