Kirkwood Vangeli

Program Coordinator, Streets and Public Spaces at The Memphis Medical District Collaborative

Kirkwood Vangeli is program coordinator of streets and public spaces at the Memphis Medical District Collaborative. He is responsible for streetscape enhancements, maintenance of public parks, and facilitating connections with the different neighborhoods that make up the district. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Kirkwood moved to Memphis to pursue a degree in political science from Rhodes College. During his time in school, he was dedicated to creative placemaking projects through independent research conducted alongside other members of the urban studies department. As a lifelong skateboarder, Kirkwood believes in using the public realm to promote alternative means of transportation to create more walkable places. He is also fascinated with the anchor institution model for creating unique pedestrian centric communities that promote health, wealth, and overall wellbeing. When he is not working on improving the Medical District, he likes to spend his time skateboarding and walking his pup Oaty.
