Since 1998, cityWILD has engaged in a bold effort to bring the typically exclusive world of outdoor experiential education to a broad, inclusive audience. CityWILD cultivates deep connections between youth and the natural world, working with them to develop their full potential and achieve their wildest dreams. CityWILD's programs engage youth in experiential learning opportunities that boldly address issues of inequity in education, economic opportunity, and access to the outdoors.
On this tour, experience the scenic “South Denver Nature Tour” for a relaxing, enjoyable ride. This trip rafts through a peaceful and very healthy section of the South Platte River, which contains 90 percent of Metro Denver’s bird life. Along the way, you’ll raft through mellow Class II rapids and end the trip with the exhilarating rapids at Union Avenue.
Your tour guides are cityWILD’s youth leaders and alumni, trained to use language and guiding techniques that are inclusive of all cultures, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and race while enhancing your experience by using therapeutic techniques and facilitation practices.
Note: Participants of this tour should know how to swim and be comfortable wearing a life jacket. Wear clothing that dries quickly as you will get wet (e.g. nylon shorts, light-colored t-shirt). Lightweight shoes that can get wet are required (no flip-flops). Sunscreen, a sun hat, and sunglasses (with a strap) are recommended. A waiver form is required onsite. Participants are encouraged to have acclimated to altitude for at least 24 hours.
