In this session, we'll explore best practices from around the country for ensuring the equitable investment of public dollars in parks and recreational programming. Attendees will hear how cities around the country have been purposeful about establishing criteria for investment in parks and green infrastructure in low-income communities and then how are the cities are implementing their strategies through actual investment.
City Parks Alliance will share its research on best practices from seven cities that have been on the cutting edge of efforts to improve equitable access to high quality parks and recreation, and four of the cities studied will participate in a panel discussion on lessons learned through the process and tools and recommendations for replication. Topics will include creating data-driven tools to assess need, developing administrative systems for ensuring the equitable allocation of funds, and passing policies to ensure the long-term impact and sustainability of their efforts.
