Why You Should Join Us in Philadelphia in 2022

The season may be getting colder outside, but at City Parks Alliance, we’re already dreaming about summer as we plan for Greater & Greener in Philadelphia, June 18-21, 2022.

We were thrilled to have received more than 230 compelling submissions for speaker presentations geared to one of four conference tracks: Co-Creating Civic Life, Equitable Economic and Community Development, Resilient Cities, and Safe, Healthy, Inclusive Communities. Our review teams, comprising a cross-section of national experts, are right this minute reviewing each proposal against our evaluation criteria. We can hardly wait for January to reveal the final slate of session topics, presenters, interactive workshops, and site visits.

Why Philly?

Philadelphia is a model for how urban investment in neighborhood parks, libraries, and recreation centers can result in increased community engagement and empowerment, diversity and economic inclusion, and urban resilience. From its green stormwater project to its Rebuilding Community Infrastructure (Rebuild),  Philadelphia’s partnership between the city and the philanthropic sector has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars invested into transformative projects in 140 neighborhoods across the city—and at Greater & Greener you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the implementation, visiting projects, and hearing from local leaders about the impact, with ideas you can implement back home.

City planner William Penn’s “green country town” boasts some of the most unique parks and public realm projects in the nation, including:

  • The recently announced massive investment in South Philadelphia’s historic FDR Park, to include an open-air courtyard, offices, event space, and a world-class playground, phase one of a $250 million five-year master plan

  • Schuylkill Banks, an effort by the Schuylkill River Development Corporation to develop a continuous eight-mile riverfront trail and greenway with access points and amenities

  • A new elevated Rail Park

What else?

If you’re a repeat attendee, you already know that at Greater & Greener you, the emphasis is on experiences and interactivity. You’ll be learning from and alongside experts and peers about leading-age topics facing urban parks and cities, such as: how parks spur economic growth, showcasing local cultures, supporting diverse populations and civic involvement, providing health benefits, job creation, & equitable solutions to environmental challenges. You’ll be participating in mobile workshops, going outside and yes, even getting your hands dirty! You won’t be disappointed.

Don’t just take our word for it– check out the video from our partners about what makes Philly a great place for parks.
