W. Bart Berger is a fourth generation Denverite and Coloradoan. He is the founder of the non-profit Denver Mountain Parks Foundation, which he began in 2004 to raise civic awareness and money to revitalize the 105 years-old system in cooperation with the City of Denver. They have been involved in a campaign to restore the historic stone shelters in the parks as well as developing a series of interpretive signage and outdoor educational programs for youth in the Denver Mountain Parks.
Educated in Denver, Bart earned a his BA degree from the University of the Pacific in 1971, and has followed various entrepreneurial business pursuits since then. He is an avid historian, art collector, hiker, skier and outdoor education proponent. He is active in many civic pursuits including the Denver Posse of Westerners, the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission, Friends of Historic Fort Logan, the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, History Colorado (CO Historical Society), HistoriCorps, and the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation.
