Luis Andres Orive

Luis Andrés Orive holds a Ph.D. in forestry engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In his doctoral academic period, he specialized in ecological planning and restoration of degraded landscapes. From 1989 until today, he has served as director of the Environmental Studies Centre of the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz. This institution is responsible for the process of environmental evolution of the city in these last thirty years developing strategies, plans, and environmental projects that have received numerous awards and recognitions on a national and international scale. The award granted by the European Commission as European Green Capital in 2012 is likely to be the one of greatest importance and impact as it turns Vitoria-Gasteiz into a global ambassador for medium-sized European cities with better environmental quality.
