Friends of the Parks
Juanita Irizarry's 4-year tenure as executive director of Friends of the Parks has included leading the organization through two back-to-back "100-year storms" in the form of threats to Chicago's parks. She brings 25 years of experience challenging the system through non-profit service and leadership as well as community organizing and advocacy, mostly in affordable housing and community development in marginalized neighborhoods in Chicago. In addition, she co-coordinated systemic reform of housing for people with disabilities through the office of former IL Governor Pat Quinn and ran for city council in her lifelong neighborhood in Chicago. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
