Melissa McHale is an associate professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability, Colorado State University, and an honorary research fellow at the Wits City Institute, the University of the Witwatersrand. Her focus is urban ecology and sustainability, including the study of complex social-ecological systems, drivers of urban structure and function, and global urbanization patterns and processes. Under Dr. McHale’s direction, students conduct policy-relevant and interdisciplinary research projects designed to guide decision-making in cities. Internationally, Melissa’s work intersects science and policy, benefiting people and biodiversity and contributing to conservation practices that enhance human well-being and promote healthy ecosystems.
