Plenary Speakers

Thoai Nguyen

Thoai Nguyen grew up in South Philadelphia and is Chief Executive Officer of Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Association Coalition (SEAMAAC), an organization based in South Philadelphia that serves and advocates for hundreds of immigrant and refugee families each year. SEAMAAC’s partnerships include over 40 local and regional entities, encompassing government, healthcare providers, and non-profit agencies.

Since 2015, SEAMAAC has increased its community development activities, including convening the Mifflin Coalition of neighborhood organizations collaborating on critical issues of mutual aid, housing, local business, and parks.

With the Mifflin Coalition, SEAMAAC has played a pivotal role in the development of a community-led schematic design for the first full renovation of Mifflin Square Park, a vigorously used 4.5-acre open space in South Philly, and have earned a commitment from the federal Outdoor Legacy Recreation Partnership for $750,000 in capital funds.
