Rachel Maher

Director of Communications and Policy at Park Pride

Since 2013, Rachel has managed marketing and communications for Park Pride — the Atlanta-based nonprofit that engages communities to activate the power of parks — supporting the growth and cohesion of Atlanta’s parks constituency.  From digital, to print, social, video, and public relations, Rachel’s breadth of communication experience has helped raise local and national awareness of Park Pride’s mission and impact, establishing its position as a thought leader in greenspace. More recently, she has taken a leading coordination role on Atlanta’s Greenspace Advisory Council, a coalition of 13 local nonprofits appointed by the Mayor to advise the city on greenspace related issues.

Prior to Park Pride, Rachel introduced Atlantans to the ride-sharing app Uber as the area’s first local Community Manager. She’s also served as a Community Development & Environmental Education Volunteer with the United States Peace Corps in Morocco, where she focused her efforts on empowering community children with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to tackle environmental challenges in their village. In 2020, Rachel was recognized by PRSA Georgia Forty Under 40, an awards program honoring those who excel in professional PR, marketing, advertising and/or social media roles, while also giving back to their industry and community.

Rachel received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond, majoring in Biology and Rhetoric & Communication Studies, and has a minor in Environmental Studies. She is currently enrolled in a graduate program at Georgia State University, studying Planning and Economic Development, and is a certified Georgia Master Naturalist through the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension program.
