Michael Burch is a science educator and community organizer in West Philadelphia’s Parkside neighborhood. Michael is passionate about the history of Parkside and Centennial District and has led many public tours in the neighborhood and the adjacent park lands.
An avid scientist since his youth, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science from Cheyney University and his Masters in Science Education at Temple University.
Michael is the founder and editor of The Parkside Journal, a respected community-based newspaper. After many years at the Franklin Institute as the Youth Program Director, he recently joined the staff of the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia as the Community Engagement Consultant to the Shofuso House & Garden in West Fairmount Park.
Michael serves as a Community Advisory Member of the Please Touch Museum, and servers a similar role at the West Park Cultural Center.
He is a founding member and Co-Chair of the Viola Street Residents Association, where he resides with his wife Yvette.
