Interim Project Manager, Civilian Conservation Corps at City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department

LaJuan Tucker is the Interim Project Manager for the City of Austin’s Civilian Conservation Corps (ACCC) within the Parks and Recreation Department’s Equity and Inclusion Program. The Austin Civilian Conservation Corps is a workforce development program created by Austin City Council during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide economic relief to those most impacted by systemic vulnerabilities. “Post” pandemic ACCC focuses on equity-based green workforce development.

They have over a decade of lived and professional experience in conservation, environmental education, workforce development, equity-based leadership and organizational culture change. They have a Master’s in Environmental Management and completed an applied Master’s project titled Piloting Leave No Trace™ Programming with People Experiencing Homelessness on Public Land. Their study examined the impact of homelessness from a systems perspective and provided recommendations for compassionate and evidence-based interdepartmental responses. They also served as a witness for the U.S. House of Representatives Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks, Forest, and Public Land’s Hearing Examining The Potential for a Civilian Climate Corps. Their career and lived experience has been dedicated to expanding racial equity within the natural resources, resiliency, and outdoor field.
