Bill Salvatore

Deputy Commissioner, Program Division at Philadelphia Parks and Recreation

Bill has been a member of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation since prior to the merger in 2008. Bill started his career as a summer camp counselor in high school and has progressed through the ranks from permanent part-time employee to facility supervisor to his current role as Deputy Commissioner of the Program Division.

In his previous roles, Bill was instrumental in the implementation of the department’s strategic plan, as well as working on partnership development and organizational culture. In his current role, Bill is tasked with managing 150+ recreation centers throughout the city, swimming pools, older adult centers, ice-skating rinks, and environmental centers. Additionally, he manages the largest out-of-school time food service program in the city, providing over 2 million meals to children in need while also overseeing the summer Work Ready program, which provides employment opportunities to over 1300 Philadelphia youth every summer.
