How can we create and promote gathering spaces for queer and trans individuals in our parks? With the increasing violence faced by 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, how can we ensure safety in these spaces?
In this Peer Conversation, the discussion leaders will identify the potential risks that queer historic and trans historic public spaces might face. They will also highlight strategies such as landmarking, public information campaigns, and visual markers that have emerged to encourage community input in the park planning process, with the goal of ensuring that these spaces and the community are protected. They will share successes and challenges in preserving these historic spaces, and how they have built partnerships with the community. Participants will share their views on how we can better support and promote gathering places for queer and trans communities while ensuring their safety.
