Advocates and government agencies are seeking ways to move toward more organic management practices for park lands and public spaces. But implementation of a seemingly simple idea of restricting pesticides and herbicides is riddled with challenges ranging from replacing long-standing management practices and product use, to educating staff and contractors, budgeting, and addressing the sheer size of publicly owned lands – which range from playgrounds and well-manicured urban pocket parks to ballfields, urban forests and other natural landscapes.
