THIS MOBILE WORKSHOP IS AT CAPACITY.
Learn how Denver is incorporating nature play into parks and playgrounds to expand opportunities for all types of play activities including gross motor, fine motor, imaginative, solitary, and collaborative play. The tour will start at City Park where participants will meet with representatives from the Museum of Nature and Science to discuss the partnership between the two agencies in redesigning and building a nature playground that can serve as a learning tool for the museum.
While at City Park, hear about and see renderings of the First Creek nature play area recently completed in east Denver.
Learn from nature play thought leaders as they share their vision for nature play that challenges traditional thinking around play and learning while encouraging policy makers and audiences to embrace the awesome power of nature. Additionally, Denver park maintenance staff will share their experience on the lessons learned in how to maintain these new play features. You will depart City Park and visit three nature play areas in Denver: Grant Frontier Park, Westwood Park, and Johnson Habitat Park where at-risk youth and their families can have a traditional, Colorado camping experience in an urban setting.
