Hike or Bike: Explore a Century of Park History in Boulder

On foot or by two-wheels, experience the best of Boulder on a fun and informative tour of the city.

Start your day with a guided tour of the grounds at Chautauqua Park, Boulder's most historic park located at the base of the iconic Flatirons. Over 100 years ago, city residents took the first steps to preserve our park and wildlands by approving a bond issue and purchasing 80 acres for a Chautauqua. That same year (1898), Boulder City Council established a "Committee on Parks," the foundation to the city's Parks Department today.

Follow your time at Chautauqua with your choice of two tour options. Each will be guided by a knowledgeable and passionate local guide:

  1. Hike the Foothills - Satisfy the nature-lover in you by exploring some of Boulder's favorite trails. A variety of levels (easy to moderate) will be available; all skill levels welcome.
  2. Bike to Downtown - Boulder is a biker’s paradise! Our bike-friendly community is the result of decades of community efforts and thoughtful planning. Pedal along as you learn about several downtown features including the newly redeveloped Civic Area Park, Central Park, Boulder Creek Path and Pearl Street Mall.

Each tour will rejoin the group to end at Eben G. Fine Park, a hidden jewel along Boulder Creek Path, for lunch.

Note: Participants are strongly encouraged to have acclimated to altitude for at least 24-36 hours. Wear hiking boots or shoes with good tread. Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended.
